The Composites Europe show, taking place in Stuttgart, Germany, from 10-12 September, will feature a special forum covering lightweight construction in auto, aviation and machinery, the organizers say.
The focus of the Lightweight Technologies Forum (LTF) will be on how to commercialize cross-material lightweight construction systems through the digitalisation of the process chain.
LuXembourg-based aerospace suppliers Gradel and Automotive Management Consulting (AMC) are conducting a market study on lightweight structures in space applications. The results will be revealed at the LTF, the companies say.
'All components are exposed to extreme conditions,’ said Claude Maack, managing director of Gradel. ‘Right from the launch of the rocket, they have to withstand enormous acceleration forces. In space, material must resist radiation exposure - and for many years. Then there are the high temperature differences from minus 185 to plus 200 degrees Celsius - alternating every couple of hours from one extreme to the other.'
On display in the forum space will be a lightweight seat made by AMC, Alba Tooling & Engineering and CSI Entwicklungstechnik GmbH. The seat, which only weighs 10 kg, is based on a special winding process for fiber-composite components using a resin-impregnated continuous fiber.
