DolphiTech says that the new camera is able to inspect Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) of up to 16mm (0.63") thickness, with very high resolution 2D and 3D images.

DolphiTech adds that its development, the DolphiCam CF16 camera, will provide non-destructive testing (NDT) experts with a supplementary tool to the 8 mm (0.315”) DolphiCam CF08. The provision of clear images through deeper and thicker materials will give NDT experts additional scope to find and analyse defects.

“Inspecting thicker materials with ultrasound is always a balance between depth and image resolution,” says Eskil Skoglund, head of Development at DolphiTech. “We are very satisfied with the performance of the DolphiCam CF16, and extremely happy with the image resolution, even at 16mm. We believe that this addition to the DolphiCam range will give NDT operators a complete solution to assess damages in CFRP structures, which will benefit the aerospace, automotive and other industries."

The DolphiCam CF16 is available in two versions: Expert and Operator. The Expert model is a full feature set designed specifically for NDT experts. It is supported by the same software used in earlier versions. The Operator version has been created for DolphiTech TeamCenter, a software solution integrating DolphiCam technology with inspection procedures, team-based NDT and remote expert support. The DolphiCam CF08 will still be the preferred choice for customers who need optimal image resolution in the sub 8mm range.

DolphiTech adds that utilising matrix transducer technology, the DolphiCam system is extremely portable, user-friendly and provides clear 2D and 3D images of internal structures in modern, lightweight materials.
