Composites UK is focussing on construction for its next sector showcase event.
Over recent years, the use of fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) in the construction industry has grown steadily. Its uses cover applications which include bridge decks and structures, external cladding, structural repair and refurbishment, modular buildings and all-FRP residential and commercial structures.
This new event, to be held at The Building Centre in London on 6 October, is open to all those wanting to learn more about how FRPs can be used in construction applications. It is specifically aimed at architects, specifiers and designers who will be able to ask their questions to companies already supplying FRPs into the construction sector.
Presenters and exhibitors will cover uses from shower trays, to FRP composite fixings and fastenings through to a FRP viaduct installed by J Murphy and Sons in Chorley, Lancashire.
‘There are a number of companies now turning to FRPs for a variety of applications, and with the development of design guidance such as the Bridge Design Guide along with the Eurocode for FRP Structures, we will start to see the materials move more widely into mainstream construction,’ said Claire Whysall, communications manager for Composites UK. ‘By considering FRP composites at the design stage, the properties can be optimised to obtain maximum benefits from using the materials. This gives many advantages over traditional materials including light weight, low maintenance and reduced environmental impact.’
