3A Composites Core Materials says that its balsa wood supply has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.
‘We are not only pleased to continue supplying the market with our balsa products from sustainable resources but also that our sustainable forestry plan has ensured the availability of prime balsa wood,’ said Juan Matheus, global product manager.
According to the company, its BALTEK SBC structural core material comes from these balsa plantations in Ecuador and Papua New Guinea, making it the only product of its kind with full traceability. BALTEK SBC is also reportedly the first carbon neutral core material in the world that can capture more greenhouse gas emissions than that caused by production.
‘Balsa is an amazing lightweight wood and native species of Ecuador,’ said Eric Gauthier, CEO. ‘We leave the natural ecosystems by holding and managing own plantations and not touching primary forest.’
