Around 50% of the primary structure of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (including the fuselage and wing) is manfactured of composite materials.

The 787-9 leverages the design of the 787-8 Dreamliner while carrying more passengers farther, seating 250-290 passengers with a range of 8000-8500 nautical miles.

The 787 programme has more than 50 Tier 1 partners located around the world.

"Thanks to the tremendous efforts of our supplier partners and our Boeing team, we have been able to integrate the 787-9 into our production system while at the same time increasing production rates of the 787-8,” says Kent Fisher, vice president and general manager of Supplier Management, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

To date, 24 customers worldwide have ordered 388 787-9s, or 40% of all 787 orders.

First delivery of the 787-9 is scheduled for mid-2014 to launch customer Air New Zealand.
