Benteler-SGL currently produces low series carbon fibre components.

The new plant in Ort im Innkreis, Upper Austria, is being built on the existing 45 000 m2 property and will provide 70 new jobs. The construction of the facility began in April. Series production will start the middle of 2013.

The goal of Benteler-SGL is to increase the series production of fibre composite components for the automotive industry. We are counting on new high-performance materials such as carbon fibres, which are then processed into high load bearing products. We are working full speed on the automation of component production. The new ultra-modern plant in Ort im Innkreis in Austria will do justice to the growing customer demand for composite parts produced in large series. We will continue to expand our technological and market position in this rapidly growing market segment.
Dr Christian Howe, managing director, Benteler-SGL

Today, Benteler-SGL produces components such as doors and visible carbon fibre parts for small series production (less than 5000 parts per year). It says its customers include many well known manufactures of premium cars. The new plant will handle large series orders for composite components.

Benteler-SGL GmbH & Co KG was founded in 2008 as a joint venture between Tier 1 automotive supplier Benteler Automobiltechnik GmbH, Paderborn, Germany, and carbon fibre manufacturer SGL Group, Wiesbaden, Germany. In 2009, the joint venture acquired the automotive business unit of Composite Technology GmbH in Ried im Innkreis, Austria, from the Fischer Group. Production has been systematically built up since that time. Today, 150 employees today work at Benteler-SGL, twice as many as in 2009.
