Approval for eVTOL flight testing

Joby Aviation, which makes battery-powered aircraft, says that has received permission to begin flight testing of its first production prototype.

The Special Airworthiness Certificate has been issued by the US Federal Aviation Administration to fly the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle in California. Plans are to scale up production as part of a US$131 million contract with the US Air Force, Joby says.

“Today’s achievement is the culmination of years of investment in our processes and technology and it marks a major step on our journey to scaled production,” said JoeBen Bevirt, Joby founder and CEO.
