AI-powered waste removal

Plastics technology center Aimplas is collaborating on a project focused on improving plastic waste recovery in remote areas.

According to the organization, waste management can be a difficult task in remote places or where the waste generated is not enough to justify substantial infrastructure.

Plans are for the Reclaim project to develop low cost, portable, easy to install and efficient portable materials recovery facilities (MRFs) using AI-powered robots that can recover of different plastics and improve system performance depending on location and situation. The system will be first demonstrated in real-life scenarios in the Greek Ionian Islands, Aimplas said.

The project is funded in part by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
