Ahlstrom closes US glass fibre reinforcements plant

Ahlstrom reports that the Bishopville plant has suffered from weakening demand in the North American wind energy industry.

74 employees will be affected by the closure, starting from January 2012.

The closure of the Bishopville plant is part of Ahlstrom's ongoing profit improvement programme, announced last month. This is aiming to increase annual operating profit by approximately €15 million from the year 2012 and may affect about 400 employees.

This programme is also affecting Ahlstrom empolyees in Finland. Co-operation negotiations started in September at the company's Mikkeli will lead to the loss of 7 jobs, starting from December 2011. The production of glass fibre reinforcements at the site will continue as before.

As part of the profit improvement programme, Ahlstrom has to date announced measures impacting a total of 305 employees around the world.
