North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT), which makes ultra-lightweight prepregs, has supplied its materials for a limited-edition watch.

The prepreg material has been used to make the new RM 11-03 McLaren Automatic Flyback Chronograph jointly commissioned by Richard Mille and McLaren Automotive.

NTPT has developed new Thin Ply materials for Richard Mille since 2013 and says that its stiff and lightweight Carbon TPT composites can help improve the mechanical performance of the watches as well as being resistant to harsh environments. This project involved creating a new thin ply (52 g/m2) quartz prepreg with UV resistance, colour homogeneity and non-allergenic material.

The prepreg was made with Saint-Gobain’s Quartzel quartz fibers and a custom Polylite H hot melt resin from Polynt Reichhold.
