Hexcel plans to showcase a range of composites for the automotive sector, including fast curing E-Coat compatible prepregs and hybrid components, at JEC World.

According to the company, its self-adhesive ultra-rapid (<30 seconds) curing, epoxy prepreg system can be bonded to metals without an additional film adhesive layer with no secondary tooling required. A hybrid part will be on display at JEC World, Hexcel said.

Hexcel will also showcase a sports car seat back made using hybrid wood fiber and carbon fiber construction. The part uses a rapid press molding process to combine Hexcel’s HexPly M77CS prepregs with thermoset wooden fiber mats derived from wood industry waste streams. The woven carbon fiber is used as the outer surface of the seat back, reinforcing the wood fiber structure.
