Prepreg for motorsport applications

Toray Advanced Composites has released a new prepreg resin for automotive and motorsport market.

According to the company, Toray TC346 reportedly has the highest combined Tg (>200°C) and high temperature mechanical property retention available for the motorsport market. It also has improved elevated temperature dry (ETD) mechanical properties such as compression strength, interlaminar shear, and fracture toughness. It also has a controlled flow system that can help simplify lay-up and cure processes, Toray says. TC346 can be manufactured as uni-directional tape or fabric in a large variety of weights and fibers.

‘TC346 has successfully completed qualification to support a number of key applications for the most demanding composite products in F1,’ said Graham Roberts, F1 business development manager at Toray. ‘This product supports applications in gearbox, suspension, pylons, wings, and crash structures to name but a few.’
