The US Air Force Research Laboratory has joined with Israeli universities to discuss new technologies.
A group of US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) scientists and engineers, led by Dr Ehud Galun of the Israel Ministry of Defense, have visited the country to learn about the technical advancements taking place within Israel and shared AFRL research activities and goals, with the objective of increasing collaborative opportunities, the lab said. The focus will be on optics, composites, metals, biotechnology, and other areas of interest to the military and commercial sector. ‘[Israel has] the highest number of per capita startups in the world, and they engage in very innovative work that couples research with application,’ said AFRL senior scientist Dr Ruth Pachter. ‘It is a good incubator for technologies that can support our own efforts.’ The team plans to hold a workshop in conjunction with the 2019 Materials Research Society meeting, taking place in Boston, MA, USA, in December. The AFRL says that the workshop will be an event to finalize new project agreements with Israel-based researchers.
