New resin for 3D composites

Huntsman has developed a new two-component, snap cure, polyurethane resin system, which it says could help improve the production of complex, three-dimensional, composite parts with tight dimensional tolerances.

Vitrox resin transfer molding (RTM) 00410 resin has a fast cure at moderate tooling temperatures. According to Huntsman, its injection window can be controlled by manufacturers and adjusted to suit the geometry of the parts being produced.

It is compatible with high-pressure RTM, dynamic fluid compression molding (DFCM) and wet compression molding techniques and can help make lighter sandwich parts made with less resin. Parts made from Vitrox RTM 00410 can also be demolded quickly, Huntsman said.
