New glass fiber mat

Ilium Composites has developed a new glass fiber reinforcement mat suitable for composite construction, industrial, and marine utility applications.

FLEXmat, supplied in 1270 mm wide rolls, is made from long chopped glass fiber thermo-bonded between two lightweight polyester veils. According to the company, the integrated veil can reach a high melting point of 180⁰C, making it suitable for high temperature exposure during pultrusion processes. Its design also allows for a slower pull on thick profiles, Ilium said.

It also has no chemical binder and can reportedly incorporate other reinforcements and a range of different resins.

It is resistant to osmosis and hazardous chemicals, according to Ilium.
