Textiles company Huesker has introduced W8SVR Neolaminate, a continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) composite.

The company says that the material can outperform conventional thermoplastic composites such as organosheets with regards to strength, stiffness and weight. W8SVR can reportedly achieve the same strength and stiffness as existing products while being up to 20% lighter. With complex geometries, it has a surface smoothness that can be modified with film or coated finishes. Neolaminate also has 35% less deformation than conventional composites for the same thickness or weight. The material is made of pre-stretched continuous fibers, unidirectionally arranged in a polymer matrix which are then processed, as required, as wovens or laid fabrics. The fiber orientation can reportedly be chosen by the customer. Huesker says that the Neolaminates are produced widths of up to 2,800 mm.

Huesker says that the material is suitable for a range of sectors including aeronautics, transportation, sport and recreation.
