Improved composite can maker stiffer profiles

BASF said that it has improved its Ultradur plastic material that can be used for co-extrusion with PVC to make lighter and stiffer window profiles.

According to the company, Ultradur B4040 G11 HMG HP green 75074 can be used in a range of industrial applications, including window profiles when blended with 55% glass fiber.

BASF says that the melt temperature has also been lowered, helping simplify the co-extrusion process with polymers such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), as the melting point is very close to the processing temperature of PVC. Ultradur can also replace the steel stiffeners that form part of a window profile. The co-extruded profile is weldable and can be machined on existing equipment.
