Exel Composites has developed a composite doorsill with what it says is a ‘Belgian blue hardstone’ look.
The company worked with Dutch window and door manufacturer Venster Techniek to develop the glass fiber reinforced product.
‘Venster Techniek turned to us to find a solution for their Flemish-speaking market to replace traditional bluestone doorsills with a more energy-efficient material,’ said John Hartley, R&D manager of Exel Composites UK. ‘We saw an opportunity in expanding our product range to doorsills with a traditional Belgian blue hardstone look in order to open up new markets especially in Holland and Belgium,’ added Jurgen Rensen of Venster Techniek.
According the companies the composite doorsills have a better thermal performance than those made from traditional bluestone due to the glass fiber, as an insulator, eliminating thermal bridging, condensation and mold. Glass fiber profiles also have high stiffness and strength, are abrasion resistant and nearly maintenance free.
