Composite radome has impact resistance

Textile specialist Porcher Industries and Meggitt, an international company which makes components and sub-systems for the aerospace, defense and energy markets, have jointly developed a composite radome, a protective enclosure that protects a radar antenna for the SATCOM satellite.

Plans were to produce a composite material solution that would deliver high impact resistance and be able to allow tuning the dielectric constant (Dk) for improving 5G air-to-ground transmission.  The composite material radome also required low permittivity and low loss tangent at GHz frequencies.

Porcher Industries developed a bespoke glass reinforced thermoplastic material for the base structural component.
