Composite drone chassis

Alpine Advanced Materials has supplied a reinforced plastic to make an injection molded chassis for an unmanned aerial system (UAS), replacing aluminum.

The company’s HX5 material forms part of the 750 mm Intense Eye drone made by defense system manufacturer BlueHalo for commercial and military operations.

“Working with Alpine gave us the opportunity to develop an ultra-light and mechanically superior aerospace-grade thermoplastic UAS frame designed for the most capable, versatile, and high-performance applications,” said Mary Clum, BlueHalo vice president.
