Webinar: How to specify fibreglass (FRP) to lower corrosion costs

This webinar is aimed at end-users and engineers who design, use or specify equipment facing corrosive environments, companies wanting to lower costs and improve the performance of their FRP equipment, and companies considering the use of FRP in various corrosive environments.

Lowering corrosion cost with FRP

As metal prices rise, engineers and end-users are replacing traditional materials with FRP in corrosive environments in the power and energy, chemical processing, mining, water and sewage treatment, food processing and other industries. In many cases, the FRP equipment is lower in cost, has outstanding performance, and provides equal (if not superior) quality over high cost alloys.

When using FRP, specifying the right material is critical and depends on the chemical environment the equipment will be facing. This webinar will discuss the various types of glass fibre and resin available and show you how to specify the correct materials for different chemical environments. The construction of an FRP laminate, including the veil layer of the corrosion barrier, the mat/chop portion of the corrosion barrier, and the important structural layer will be discussed and ways of selecting the proper materials for each layer using the tools available will be shown. The webinar will also illustrate the benefits of specifying the correct FRP materials, and review standards available to ensure the proper construction, installation and inspection of FRP equipment. 

Speakers

Matt Lieser is the Global Specification Leader for the Owens Corning Composites Solutions Business, supporting end-users and engineers in various projects using FRP equipment. He develops material specifications and educates industries on the importance of material selection and specification of FRP in corrosive environments.

Kevin Spoo is a Research Associate at the Owens Corning Composite Solutions Business and leads the application and development lab in Owens Corning’s Granville Science and Technology Center. A chemist by trade he has worked as a polyester resin chemist, epoxy formulator, pultrusion chemist/engineer, and thermoplastic composite process engineer. In the corrosion field he currently directs work in the Owens Corning corrosion lab and is a member of the following industrial corrosion groups – ASME RTP-1 Committee, NACE STG-10 Committee, ASTM D20.23 Pipe Committee, and ACMA Corrosion Control Group.

Guest Speaker from Cargill. This speaker is responsible for the quality and reliability of Cargill’s pressure vessels, storage tanks and piping systems. Cargill is an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial and industrial products and services.
