Wasatch Wind retains other wind development projects in Ontario including land-based projects, which are also eligible for Ontario’s feed-in tariff programme.
"As a result of our in-depth analysis, we determined that certain areas of the Great Lakes have exceptional potential as wind energy development sites,” says Michael Cole, Vice President of Special Projects for Wasatch Wind.
The first phase of the offshore wind project is estimated to be online in 2014.
Canadian Hydro currently generates 40% of Ontario’s renewable energy. “We are thrilled that our development expertise and leadership in recognising opportunities may lead to the construction of one of the world’s largest renewable energy facilities.
