University of Maine opens engineering center

The University of Maine in the US has opened a new US$78 million facility covering biomedical engineering, electronics, 3D printing, vehicles, metals, wood and composites.

According to the university, the new space will have the capacity to increase engineering enrollment by a third, that is, 600 additional students a year.

Construction of the 115,000 ft2 facility began in May 2020.

“This state-of-the-art center at our R1 university will allow us to produce more engineering and computing and information science professionals that Maine needs to grow its economy and be competitive in the world,” said university president Joan Ferrini-Mundy.
