Chomarat, a producer of composite reinforcements, has launched a carbon C-PLY backpack frame for the Kuiu Ultra backpack in partnership with Rocket Composites.

C-PLY reportedly met all the criteria (thin plies, no crimp and shallow angles) to fulfil the requirements in terms of concept, design, tooling, prototyping and production of the backpack frame.

‘Our partnership with Chomarat enabled us to redesign the backpack frame utilizing a custom triaxial C-PLY fabric that makes the new frame 25% stronger with much better torsional stability compared to previous models made from traditional woven carbon fabrics,’ said Paul Hewitt, owner and founder of Rocket Composites. According to Hewitt, the material makes a flatter and more stable part, and also ‘handles and cuts better than woven fabric and generates less waste.’
