Toho Tenax reports that the prepreg cures in 3 minutes at 150°C, resulting is an increase in production efficiency "by a factor of many dozens," which will allow the company to raise annual production capacity to 50,000 CFRP parts.
The prepreg can be formed at a low pressure of around 0.5 MPa. The prepreg was initally developed for automotive applications, but Toho Tenax will also explore opportunities in the aerospace, sports, and other markets.
A flame-resistant version now under development is expected to further expand applications to consumer electronics and other sectors.
