Production of Tenax carbon fibre in Germany started in In 1986 under previous owners (Enka, Akzo Nobel). Today, Toho Tenax Europe is the only carbon fibre producer in Germany and a leading producer in Europe.

Tenax carbon fibre production capacity in Germany is now 5100 tons. Toho Tenax Europe has also built up R&D facilities for Tenax carbon fibres and composites, including a carbon fibre research line, in order to develop carbon fibre technology to meet future demand. As well as the development of high performance carbon fibre, Toho Tenax Europe is developing new technologies, semi finished products and raw materials with the aim of industrialising carbon fibre production processes to meet the demand from high volume applications in the wind energy, automotive, and other industries.

Toho Tenax is the core company of the Teijin Group's carbon fibres business. The Toho Tenax Group has an annual production capacity of 13 900 tons and produces a variety of semi-finished carbon fibre based materials. Toho Tenax Europe GmbH is an affiliate located in Germany which is responsible for the European market.
