TenCate and Toray sign carbon fibre supply agreement

The supply agreement covers five years through 2015.

TenCate Aerospace Composites is a leading  producer of thermoset and thermoplastic prepreg composites for space and aerospace and industrial applications.

TenCate Cetex RTL (Reinforced Thermoplastic Laminate) are consolidated flat sheets for use in thermoforming processes. Fibre reinforcement and thermoplastic matrix can be selected from a wide range of fibres and resins.

"This long term supply agreement fits to our needs, because it covers our long-term needs based on our contracts with, for instance Airbus, for the production of the Airbus aircraft," says Frank Meurs, director TenCate Advanced Composites EMEA.

"TenCate Cetex has been used in aircraft applications for more than ten years," he adds.

Automotive study

TenCate Advanced Composites and Japanese carbon fibre supplier Toray have also agreed to study a joint market-product development in thermoplastic composites used for automotive applications.

"Because Toray Industries is strategically developing carbon fibre in automotive use in addition to aerospace, there is a strategic and technological link with our future developments in this respect," reports Meurs.

"We see a need to cooperate within the value chain in order to speed up the time to market for new materials and processing technologies."
