Teijin promotes bike sustainability

Teijin Limited and engineering company Fujitsu Limited have launched a joint business model to “maximize the environmental value” of recycled composites used to make bicycle frames for European customers.

According to the companies, in Europe, many bicycle manufacturers use frames manufactured in Asia which are finally disposed of in landfills in Asia. This can lead to an increase in energy consumption during long-distance transportation of materials and used frames, and resources not being recycled and disposed of in a sustainable manner, Teijin and Fujitsu said.

The companies will conduct trials together with German bike manufacturers V Frames and Advanced Bikes research ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its production process and promote awareness of recycled materials.
