Supply agreement for aerospace foams

Solvay has signed a long-term agreement to supply Zotefoams, a manufacturer of lightweight cross-linked polyolefin block foams, with its Solef polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) thermoplastic fluoropolymer.

The material will be used to produce Zotefoams’ Zotek F closed cell crosslinked aerospace foam range which is used in aerospace interiors such as ducting, carpet underlay, environmental control systems and insulation.

“This agreement […] opens exciting new perspectives for weight reduction as well as noise and vibration management for interior components,” said Marc Doyle, executive vice president at Solvay.

Solef PVDF is inherently flame retardant and has improved electrochemical stability and chemical resistance at high temperatures, according to the company. It can reportedly provide weight savings of up to 70% in aircraft interiors.
