SP launches composite products at METS 2009

The new SP products launched at the METS (Marine Equipment Trade Show) this week, are:

  • Spabond 540, a high performance marine adhesive;
  • Ampreg F230,  a foaming epoxy system; and
  • Prime™ 20 ULV, an infusion system.

Spabond 540 is a modified epoxy adhesive for bonding polyester composite laminates. SP says it is ideal for GRP production boat builders which need a structure adhesive with a long working time for bonding hull-to-decks and bulkheads on large yachts (typically in excess of 40 ft).

Ampreg F230 is a foaming epoxy system which offers high strength and toughness. It is designed to be used in the manufacture of marine rudder foils. Ampreg F230 is available with a range of Ampreg 21 hardeners allowing the speed of the system to be tailored.

The Prime 20 ULV (ultra low viscosity) epoxy infusion system is specifically designed for use in a variety of resin infusion processes and has been formulated to give exceptionally low mixed viscosity for the infusion of large composite structures. It is available with three hardeners that offer a range of working times and cure speeds. It has already been used successfully for the single-operation moulding of components ranging from narrow carbon yacht masts to 80 ft yacht hulls.

METS 2009 takes place on 17-19 November in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

SP is the marine business of Gurit and currently supplies the superyacht market, high-performance custom, production and workboat sectors.
