Thermoplastic composites specialist RTP Company reports that it has acquired a number of patents for anti-scratch additives used in enginereed thermoplastics.
The transaction, completed in September 2020, includes nanoparticle technology patents, the company said.
Damage from scratch or mar can occur on the surface of a plastic part during manufacturing, assembly, packaging, shipping, or product use, according to RTP. Surface protection compounds with scratch resistance could eliminate the need for special protective packaging, coatings or painting.
‘The base technology greatly improves scratch and mar resistance in injection molded thermoplastics, delivering best-in-class performance,’ said Scott Koberna, general manager at RTP. ‘Our initial integration of the nanoparticle technology will be in polyamide, acrylic, and polyester resin systems.’
