Plasan and TPI Composites announce joint venture

Armored Chariots, based in Warren, Rhode Island, USA, will start design and development this year. Volume manufacturing is scheduled to commence in 2012-2013.

The joint venture is expected to create 150-250 manufacturing and engineering jobs.

"TPI's expertise, knowledge and respect with which it is held, makes it the ideal partner for Plasan, as we seek to provide even better armor protection to our defence customers in the US Army," says Dan Ziv, CEO of Plasan.

Composite technology provides a lighter, stronger, more durable vehicle, enabling the military to:

  • add payload such as vital communications systems or ammunition;
  • reduce corrosion and certain maintenance expenses;
  • improve fuel efficiency;
  • reduce life cycle costs; and
  • improve airlift capability.

TPI Composites is a Scottsdale, Arizona, based manufacturer of composite wind turbine blades and products for the military and transportation sectors.
