The President’s remarks came in an interview on KGW NewsChannel 8 when asked about the recently filed trade petitions.
SolarWorld accuses China of showering its solar manufacturers with countless and widespread subsidies and exports its production at artificially low prices with the effect of decimating much of the US domestic solar manufacturing industry and its jobs.
Obama has been quoted as saying: “We have seen a lot of questionable competitive practices coming out of China when it comes to the clean energy space, and I have been more aggressive than previous administrations in enforcing our trade laws. We have filed actions against them when we see these kinds of dumping activities, and we’re going to look very carefully at this stuff and potentially bring actions if we find that the basic rules of the road have been violated.”
The Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing filed a case with the US Department of Commerce and International Trade Commission against China in October. China has since hit back warning the US against trade protectionism.
