New Netherlands composite plant

GKN Aerospace has opened a composite manufacturing facility in Hoogeveen, the Netherlands.

According to the company, the site will mainly focus on making lightweight thermoplastic composites for future aircraft and researching electrification with GKN Fokker sites in the same country.

“Leveraging advanced thermoplastic composites enable weight reduction of at least 10% compared to traditional aircraft materials,” a press release said. “Furthermore, thermoplastics boast superior production efficiency, excellent fire safety characteristics, and high recyclability, and therefore, present an affordable and sustainable solution for aircraft structural components.”

GKN Aerospace owns similar facilities in the UK, Sweden, and the US.
