LF prepolymers on show

Chemicals company Lanxess plans to showcase a range of its low free (LF) isocyanate urethane prepolymers at the FEICA European Adhesive & Sealant Conference, taking place from 11–13 September 2019 in Dubrovnik, Croatia

The company’s Adiprene LF prepolymers are suitable for adhesives, sealants and one component foams (OCF) and have < 0.1 wt.% free methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and other isocyanates such as toluene diisocyanate (TDI), hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) or p-phenylene diisocyanate (pPDI), that have improved industrial hygiene standards and processing. The prepolymers can help meet strict regulatory requirements and make final products with lower hazard classifications.

The materials can tailor the reactivity, viscosity and polyol backbone of the prepolymer to adjust it to the need of the formulators and have a structured morphology which can offer more consistent processing by controlling the chemical structure, Lanxess said.

‘The focus of our development work is to design prepolymers containing low free monomer content for use in adhesive and sealants formulations,’ said Ronald M Emanuel Jr, senior scientist, global research and development, adhesives. ‘In particular, this refers to overcoming the differences that the removal of residual diisocyanate monomer present to the performance of the final adhesive formulation.’
