Latin American Composite Materials Association established

In addition to increasing the representation of the composites market, ALMACO will be responsible for planning activities to promote growth.

ALMACO will also organise courses and events to promote the composites industry throughout Latin America.

"We also intend to fully map the sector, which will allow several business opportunities, says Gilmar Lima, president of ALMACO. "And, in relation to the rest of the world, we will have a much stronger association to fight for our interests."

Lima is also president of the Brazilian Composite Materials Association, ABMACO.

ABMACO led the foundation of ALMACO, which will be headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil. Established in 1981, ABMACO has around 300 members and maintains the Composites Technology Center (CETECOM), the largest of its kind in Latin America.

Brazil is also the largest composites market in the region, generating a turnover of US$1.595 billion in 2010.
