Mexican automotive specialist Katcon Advanced Materials and Magna Steyr have signed a 10-year-agreement regarding the exclusive license of Magna´s Crush Core Wetpressing technology for the manufacture of automotive body parts in Europe and the Americas.
Magna developed this technology, based on polyurethane and a paper honeycomb core, to achieve more cost-efficient lightweight series production for class A surfaces. It is a direct, out-of-tool and ready-to-paint process and includes the tool and equipment engineering. Sandwich components manufactured with the Crush Core Wetpressing Technology are reportedly up to 70% lighter than traditional parts made in steel or aluminum and offer functional integration advantages such as acoustic isolation or design freedom at vehicles front side.
