MultiStar multi-end roving for sheet moulding compound (SMC).

The roving is available in three categories. MultiStar 264 roving is designed to increase mechanical performance in multi-purpose polyester resins while improving run-out and glass distribution for a variety of applications in the transportation, electrical and building industries, while multistar 566 roving is designed for resin translucency in panel components used in the building industry. multistar 576 is designed for high-speed processing in polyurethane reinforcement systems.

Mechanical properties

The MultiStar roving support JM customers in a variety of process technologies, such as SMC, spray-up, GMT, pipe fabrication, panel molding, PU-reinforcements and gypsum boards.

The new chopped strand glass fiber has been designed for automotive applications requiring combined hydrolysis performance and reduced weight.

Johns Manville’s new ThermoFlow 675 provides improved mechanical properties in tensile strength after 1,000 hours aging test by 10% and improved impact performance by 15% versus standard short-glass fiber chopped strands. ThermoFlow 675 maintains the high flow feeding performance of current ThermoFlow chopped strands with low fuzz and less downtime to the benefit of customers using large extruders, even with high glass load.
