The University of Manchester and masterbatch specialist the Colloids Group have joined forces to research the use of graphene nanocomposites in a range of thermoplastic materials.

According to the research team, it will investigate the application of nanocomposites based on graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) materials in polyolefins, polyamides and polyesters to understand how mechanical, thermal, electrical, rheological and gas-barrier properties are affected by the production process and the materials used.

The aim of the project is to develop polymer-graphene nanocomposites with improved properties and multifunctional capabilities that are not currently available for the automotive, aerospace, electronics and electrical markets.
