Giant 10 MW Britannia wind turbine scrapped

By Kari Williamson

The Britannia offshore wind turbine was being developed with support from the UK Crown Estate and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), which have now received refunds of their investments.

Clipper did not meet development milestones and broke the terms and conditions of the funding agreement with the Crown Estate, according to UKOffshoreWind.com.

United Technologies Corporation (UTC), which bought Clipper last year following financial difficulties, has sited increased competition in the market as the reason for shelving the Britannia wind turbine project, reports BusinessGreen.
