LumenGel Ltd of Canada says that this patent pending technology allows pultruded parts to be gel-coated in-line with a durable, near zero VOC gel-coat developed by Red Spot Paint & Varnish Co Inc.
The LumenGel gel-coating system can be retrofitted to existing pultrusion lines with only slight modifications and requires minimal floor space.
Benefits of the LumenGel In-Line Coating System (ICS) are reported to include:
- improved productivity – LumenGel ICS enables the pultrusion and coating of multiple parts simultaneously;
- low capital investment – LumenGel ICS requires lower initial capital investment costs than conventional paint lines;
- eliminate post paint systems – there is no need for paint booths, expensive ventilation, or high temperature cure lines; and
- environmentally friendly – LumenGel gel-coats are near zero VOC with 100% transfer efficiency.
Testing has shown that LumenGel provides a highly durable surface that has superior scratch resistance, excellent adhesion, chemical resistance, and colour control. Coated parts are now undergoing a battery of testing protocols.
