GE Aviation uses Umeco prepregs for Airbus A350 XWB wing

Following an 18-month process development phase, GE Aviation placed an order with Umeco for the production of the first 18 shipsets. The prepregs will be used to manufacture honeycomb sandwich structures using out of autoclave processing.

Umeco’s MTM 44-1 prepreg has been optimised for low pressure vacuum-bag processing to provide low internal void content. The resulting composite's performance is reported to be comparable to that of standard autoclave cured systems.

Umeco, headquartered in London, UK, is a global provider of advanced composite materials and processes for the aerospace and defence, renewable energy, recreation and automotive industries.
