Bindatex, which specialises in composite cutting, has been awarded an Innovate UK grant of almost £100,000 to widen the market for its 1 mm wide slitting capability for composite parts manufacturing.

According to the company, the funding will support research and testing to enable Bindatex to produce 1 mm wide thermoplastic UD slit tape in greater volumes for light weight aircraft manufacturers and other key transport applications. It also plans to reduce the increased in-process waste being sent to landfill, and otherwise identify how this waste can be recycled and reused for other processes.

‘I cannot stress how beneficial this grant from Innovate UK is to the continuing growth of Bindatex,’ said Chris Lever, Bindatex MD. ‘It’s going to allow us to carry out research that would not otherwise be possible at the current time due to the impact of Covid.’
