The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub has announced the funding of two new feasibility studies, following a call for proposals issued in October 2017. Each award of £50,000 will fund a six-month research project in composites manufacturing. Proposals were invited from UK academia for projects that addressed research in recycling and waste-reduction, and microwave processing. The call received 16 proposals from 12 academic institutions across the UK and the titles of the studies chosen for funding are:
- Microwave (MW) heating through embedded slotted coaxial cables for composites manufacturing (M-Cable), Dr Mihalis Kazilas, Brunel University
- Acceleration of monomer transfer molding using microwaves, Professor Derek Irvine, University of Nottingham.
The EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub was launched in January 2017 and is a £10.3 million investment to expand UK research in the production of polymer matrix composites.
