Hexcel reports that Boeing’s new 777X aircraft has completed a successful first flight.
The company says that it supplied a range of carbon fiber and composite materials for the aircraft, including honeycomb core throughout the interiors, flight control surfaces, secondary structures and nacelles, along with engineered core in the wing leading edges and prepregs and engineered parts along the wing trailing edges.
‘At Hexcel, we have a long and proud history developing and supplying advanced composite technologies to propel the future of flight,’ said Colleen Pritchett, Hexcel aerospace president. ‘We’re proud to have been selected to partner with Boeing on this incredible new aircraft.’
Production of the 777X reportedly began in 2017 and first delivery is targeted for 2021.
