Environmental certification for composite pole

Creative Composites Group (CCG) says that its composites utility poles have received a cradle-to-gate Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), a document that quantifiably demonstrates the environmental impacts of a product, from BRE Global.

The EPD covers primary energy use and resource use, including materials, fuels and water, the company said. StormStrong composite utility poles are lightweight and contain no chemicals or additives that can harm humans or the environment, according to CCG.

“The EPD will permit interested parties to compare the global warming potential (GWP) of our StormStrong poles against steel and concrete poles,” said Dustin Troutman, director of product development. “In addition, it will serve as a baseline for future initiatives to further reduce the GWP. “

“We found that our product reduces the global warming potential by 30 to 40% over galvanized steel poles,” added Kelsy Valko, chemical engineer.
