ECOplast – biocomposites for automotive engineering

The ECOplast project consortium incorporates 13 partners from 5 European countries and is led by the Spanish Galician Automotive Technological Centre (CTAG).

In the 4 year project, researchers will aim to develop tailor-made biocomposites which fulfill the requirements of the automotive industry and which can be processed on existing production lines. The biocomposite materials studied in this project are based on commercially available bioplastics but they will be modified with the help of natural fibres, mineral fillers, nanofillers and additives.

As well as developing new biocomposite materials, the project will also test new processing technologies and look at adapting current ones.

The ECOplast project partners are:

  • Centro Tecnológico de Automoción de Galicia (CTAG), Spain (coordinator);
  • Asociación de Investigación de Materiales Plásticos y Conexas (AIMPLAS), Spain;
  • PIEP Associação – Polo de Inovação em Engenharía de Polímeros, Portugal;
