Dura Composites reports on rail safety

Dura Composites has published an article entitled Closing the Gap: Between Rail & Safety, examining the use of composites on train platforms.

The article is a precursor to a report into safety on the UK rail system by the company focusing on how the UK government, rail operators and manufacturers could increase safety, with information from industry bodies such as Composites UK and British Transport Police.

The report will also focus on:

  • Fire safety standards for infrastructure
  • Electrification and its challenges
  • Technology and innovation
  • Passenger and worker safety and statistics
  • CP6 and the lifecycle costs of composites
  • Public attitudes towards rail safety
  • Anti-suicide and wellbeing measures

Dura Composites says that it has also formed a steering group entitled Unlocking the Power of Composites for Rail Infrastructure Improvements (UPCRII) with Network Rail, TFL, NCC, Composites UK, RIA, RSSB, Structeam Ltd and Balfour Beatty. The group promotes the use of glass fiber reinforced plastics (GRP) composites in the rail sector.

The article can be found here (pdf).
