DoE Targets 50 GW Offshore Wind by 2030

According to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), to date, offshore wind projects totaling 5 GW have been either applied for or are in the planning and development phase.

Based on estimates of DoE, approximately 50 GW of the targeted 300 GW of wind energy - which is to cover 20% of the total US energy production in 2030 - could come from offshore wind energy.

Ten states have already signed up to the US Offshore Wind Energy Consortium to promote the development of offshore wind energy and other renewable sources off the Atlantic coast.

The Cape Wind project in Massachusetts will be the pilot project.
