The US Composites Institute (IACMI) has been awarded a US$5 million grant to expand a composites training program in four US locations.
The award was granted to meet the need of US Department of Defense manufacturers developing aerial combat or reconnaissance equipment that lack a skilled workforce, according to the IACMI.
IACMI plans to partner with Davis Technical College and partners to develop the training program. These include Enterprise State Community College in Enterprise, AL and the Composites Prototyping Center in Long Island, NY, which will be home to learning centers, Purdue University, Vanderbilt University, the University of Dayton Research Institute, and the University of Tennessee, which will implement the curriculum, the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and SpaceTEC CerTEC will provide education alignment and certification support, and Composites One, which will develop and deliver workshops with IACMI. The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) Apprenticeship Works program will assist employers with establishing Department of Labor certified apprenticeship programs, IACMI says.
In addition to training program trainees, the national program will also train instructors prior to program launch and will continue to provide support throughout the duration of the program.
